Income eligibility for children's health insurance held steady at 200 percent of poverty in 2008. Income eligibility for child care subsidies declined in 2007, from 192 to 185 percent of the federal poverty level. The 2008 appropriation for the LA 4 prekindergarten program, $83 million, more than doubled the 2007 appropriation.
Recent Developments1
In 2007, Louisiana created a comprehensive tax package to support and increase quality child care. New, refundable tax credits are now available to parents, businesses, child care providers, and child care workers. The tax credits are closely linked to the state's child care quality rating system.
