Strengthening Skills of Early Childhood Teachers Through Peer Coaching and Reflection

This project will examine a new model designed to increase the capacity of early care and education (ECE) programs to engage in ongoing quality improvement with a focus on ECE teacher practices that promote language development and positive teacher-child relationships. The model has three components: 1) teacher peer coaching; 2) use of a teacher-child relationship reflection tool, and 3) group reflection sessions. The project will use a mixed-methods approach to assessing the feasibility of the model as implemented in 16 classrooms and preliminary evidence of efficacy. The project will be conducted by researchers at the National Center for Children in Poverty and the Strauss Center.
