Learn about our Research Connections project.

Research Connections conducted a comprehensive search of its collection for resources focused on using ongoing assessment to guide individualized supports for children’s learning in early childhood education programs serving children 0 to 6 years. Since there are multiple terms used to describe this process, key words used in the search were “response to intervention,” “recognition and response,” “ongoing assessment,” “individualize,” “differentiated instruction,” “tailored instruction,” “formative assessment,” “curriculum-based assessment,” “progress monitoring,” “early childhood assessment,” and “tailored teaching.” This Key Topic Resource List includes an overview and listing of selected resources from the literature from the years 2000-2014. Resources of various types–reports, research articles, and reviews–are included. Based on the search results, resources are grouped into the following categories: Rationale, concepts, and framework; Implementation processes and challenges; Outcomes for children’s learning.
